DEBATING
Students will be taught the skills of debating by nationally and internationally recognised coaches. Former instructors included World Debating Champions and the Australian Team Coach. Debating fosters confident and creative self-expression, a robust general knowledge and higher order critical thinking.
Junior participants will learn about logic, rhetoric and style. They’ll also learn about key concepts from politics, economics and the law.
Senior students will be exposed to the techniques of University debating. They’ll also cover live issues in international relations, development economics, advanced philosophy and social theory.
PUBLIC SPEAKING
Students will learn about oratory from former National Champions of the Legacy, Lawrence Campbell, Rostrum Voice of Youth and SMH Plain English Speaking Award.
Public speaking will offer students important oral communication skills that will be relevant to their studies and future careers.
Young students will practice integrating humour, anecdote, fact and gravitas in their speeches. Older students will learn about how to tailor speeches to a variety of contexts, competitions and audiences.
In both groups instructors will intensively focus on solving individual problems in delivery and style, and assist students with short preparation.
