English

Think Table provides classes for Years 3 – 12. All English classes are led by experienced teachers, who currently teach at leading schools. Primary school English classes seek not only to teach fundamentals like grammar, which are rarely taught in classrooms, but to instill in students a passion for reading.

Classes are usually centered around text studies. Teachers select core books and supplement them with extra texts and guide students to consider the major themes and characters, and help them to craft analytical and creative responses.

“High school English classes at Think Table are designed to closely follow the Board of Studies guidelines”

Teachers select texts which are commonly studied in high schools, and teach students to produce high quality extended responses, creative pieces, and also set oral assessments to give students opportunities to practice them in graded settings.

During the holidays, we also offer week-long intensive courses, which allow students to take intensive classes, designed to challenge them. Some of these intensive courses have included studying the poetry of Ted Hughes, and writing creative stories inspired by Alice Munro’s short stories.

HSC-tailored English classes are also available in group and private formats. The teachers who lead these sessions are currently HSC markers (2u, 3u and 4u.)
